Research Seminar on Male Victims of Intimate Partner Violence Held at East West University

The East West University Center for Research and Training (EWUCRT) hosted an academic research seminar titled “Men’s Experiences of Female-Perpetrated Intimate Partner Violence in Bangladesh” on 30 October 2025 at the EWUCRT Seminar Room. The seminar addressed a largely understudied and socially overlooked dimension of intimate partner violence (IPV), foregrounding men’s victimization within heterosexual relationships in the Bangladeshi context.

The research proposal was jointly presented by Dr. Anisur Rahman Khan, Associate Professor, and Dr. Rasel Hussain, Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology, East West University. Their presentation outlined the conceptual framework, research questions, and methodological approach of the proposed study, emphasizing its potential to fill significant gaps in both national and global IPV literature, where male victimhood remains marginalised.

Dr. Mumita Tanjeela, Associate Professor, Department of Sociology, served as the designated discussant. Her critical reflections provided theoretical, methodological, and ethical insights that enriched the scholarly dialogue and highlighted key considerations for the refinement of the study.

The session was presided over by Dr. Rafiqul Huda Chaudhury, Chairperson of EWUCRT, who underscored the timeliness and academic relevance of the research initiative in his concluding remarks. Earlier, the welcome address was delivered by Professor Dr. Sohel Rana, Executive Director of EWUCRT, who emphasized the center’s commitment to promoting rigorous and socially impactful research.

The seminar concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, facilitating an engaging exchange among faculty members, students, and institutional representatives. The event was attended by distinguished members of the university community, including Professor Dr. M. Ashik Mosaddik, Pro Vice Chancellor; Air Cdre (retd) Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury, Treasurer; faculty members from various departments; students; and officials from EWUCRT, reflecting the academic significance and broad interest in the topic.
