Eastern University with North South University
On June 27, 2026, Eastern University held its orientation ceremony for the Summer Trimester 2026 at its Ashulia campus, featuring notable figures including the Honorable Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Farid Ahmed Sobhani and chief guest Professor Dr. Salimullah Khan from North South University’s Department of History and Philosophy. Barrister Safayet Mohammad Raju, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, served as the special guest.
North South University Professor Dr. Khan emphasized the minimal use of Bangla in higher education, highlighting its importance for quality educational advancement and knowledge acquisition. He expressed concern over the lack of alignment between education and industrial needs, which has contributed to ongoing unemployment issues. Drawing a parallel between the university’s natural setting and Shantiniketan, he urged students to commit to knowledge, human values, and an enlightened life.
Eastern University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Sobhani inspired students to become good citizens through moral values, administering a pledge to honor and support their parents, noting it as critical for personal success. Barrister Raju encouraged comprehensive engagement in academic and skill development while cherishing the university experience, underscoring its pivotal role in shaping futures.
Other Eastern University speakers included Professor Md. Shamsul Huda (Treasurer), Dr. Abul Bashar Khan (Registrar), and various faculty deans. The welcome address was delivered by Mohammad Rafius-San, head of the Department of English, with participation from faculty members, staff, guardians, and new students. The event also provided insights into academic activities, student support, club initiatives, and campus facilities, concluding with a cultural performance by the students to showcase their talents.
