Brac University Freshers’ Orientation
Brac University organized its Freshers’ Orientation for the Fall 2026 semester at its Merul Badda campus on 30 September 2026, welcoming newly admitted students to the university community.
Addressing the gathering, vice chancellor Syed Ferhat Anwar encouraged students to consider how they could contribute to the world and embrace the experiences that would shape their individual journeys.
“Now you have to decide how you want to contribute to the world…Every journey makes you unique,” he said.
Highlighting the university’s broader mission, he added, “This is what Brac is all about. Reaching out to the world.”
Pro vice chancellor Professor Arshad Mahmud Chowdhury emphasized the importance of responsibility, curiosity and academic integrity in university life.
“Any freedom comes with the responsibility…Never hesitate to ask questions…Protect your academic integrity…use education to make a positive difference,” he said.
Treasurer Ariful Islam highlighted the university’s financial support initiatives for students. “Amongst all private universities, we’re very proud to have the most comprehensive scholarship and financial aid schemes,” he said.
He also announced that Brac University was pioneering on-campus part-time job opportunities for students, effective from the Fall 2026 semester.

Registrar David Dowland announced the introduction of a new academic program, noting that the university would launch a master’s program in medical physics this semester.
“This semester, we’re starting a master’s in medical physics, much needed, and a promising career route for graduates,” he said.
The programme is intended to address the growing need for expertise in medical physics while opening up new career opportunities for graduates.
The orientation programme also featured an audiovisual tribute to BRAC University Founder Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, alongside videos introducing the Residential Semester, health and safety measures, and the university’s academic and administrative leadership.
Members of the student club Monon performed the National Anthem and presented musical and dance performances, adding a cultural dimension to the event.
A dedicated Student Life segment introduced newcomers to the university’s clubs and societies, mental and physical wellbeing facilities, and career planning support offered by the Office of Career Services and Alumni Relations.
Special recognition certificates were presented to six students in acknowledgement of their achievements.
Among the recipients was Md Akheruzzaman, a third-semester pharmacy student who secured second place in a poster presentation competition at the Dubai International Pharmaceuticals and Technologies Conference and Exhibition 2026. He was recognised for showcasing his AI-based prescription verification tool.
Navid Rahman a seventh-semester computer science student was also recognised for becoming the champion of the Bangladesh Sports Olympiad 2026, an academic-style tournament testing participants’ knowledge of sports and their mastery of sports-related trivia.
The remaining four recipients—final-year electrical and electronic engineering students Md Shahariar Hossain, Tazwar Ahmed, Shadid Al Akib and Rafin Md Abrar—are members of Team Scavenger.
The team was crowned champion at EWU RobotFest 2026 for its quadruped robotic system, designed to monitor hazardous environments.
Following the formal programme, newly admitted students toured the campus with mentors from the First Year Advising Team (FYAT) and orientation volunteers. The event concluded with a concert by Blue Jeans.
