Brac University’s Brac Institute of Languages ​​(BIL) has completed two decades. On this occasion, various day-long programs were organized at the university’s Merul Badda campus on Thursday (April 30). The entire campus was filled with various programs, including dance, songs, poetry recitation, stage plays and processions.

Vice chancellor of the university Syed Farhat Anwar was present as the special guest at the program. He said, “Brac University’s goal is to become one of the leading universities in the Global South.” Language and culture practice will help us achieve this goal. Brac Institute of Languages’ role here is very big.

He also said, “Our goal is big.” Therefore, it is important to build long-term and fruitful partnerships, and we are working towards that goal.

Stephen Forbes country director of the British Council Bangladesh was present as the chief guest at the program. Highlighting the importance of language education, he said that language connects people with people and builds bridges between cultures.

Syeda Sarwat Abed founder and advisor of the Brac Institute of Languages said that the Brac Institute of Languages ​​is working to ensure that language does not become a barrier to talent, ability and opportunity.

Tamara Hassan Abed chairperson of the board of trust of Brac University was present at the event. In her closing remarks, director Shayla Sultana presented a complete picture of BIL’s journey, achievements and future plans. Dr. Iram Mariam executive director of the Brac Institute of Educational Development also spoke at the event.

Former students of the university highlighted how BIL has brought positive changes in their lives. One of them said that by learning the language, he got the opportunity to go to China and become a doctor.

Foreign students studying at Brac University also showcased global languages ​​and cultures through captivating performances. The Bachelor of Arts in Applied English Language Studies program was also officially launched on the day.

Three book covers were unveiled at the event. One of them was a memoir about Brac University’s residential semester and the other two were English learning books for school students. In addition, the play “Socrates’ Testimony” was staged. Brac’s social empowerment and legal protection program was presented by Jatrapala. At the end of the event, the popular band Warfaze enthralled the students with their performance.
