North South University’s (NSU) Department of Management, in collaboration with UNDP Bangladesh, organized a focused workshop titled “Responsible AI in Practice: Civil Society, Governance and Accountability in Bangladesh” on Tuesday at the SBE Dean’s Conference Room on the NSU campus in Dhaka.
Session brought together a distinguished panel of speakers, including Sheela Tasneem Haq from UNDP Bangladesh; Zulkarin Jahangir, Assistant Professor at NSU; Syed Ishtiaque Ahmed from the University of Toronto; Shafiqul Alam from Victoria University of Wellington and Quazi Tafsirul Islam from NSU.

Workshop was chaired by Ziaul Haq Adnan, Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Management at NSU, who emphasized the growing importance of aligning artificial intelligence development with ethical governance and societal accountability.
Highlighting the broader implications of AI adoption, Zulkarin Jahangir remarked, “Responsible AI is not only a technical issue but also a governance challenge. Without ethical frameworks and local context, AI risks deepening existing inequalities.”
Workshop concluded with an interactive discussion on how academia, non-governmental organizations, and development partners can collaborate to promote more responsible, ethical and accountable AI practices in Bangladesh, ensuring that technological advancement supports inclusive and sustainable development.
