The 2026 ranking marks the ninth consecutive year that Texas Tech has been included in the CWUR Global Rankings, one of the world’s largest and most comprehensive university ranking systems.

“Rankings such as these affirm the progress we have made in strengthening our academic and research enterprise while preparing graduates who are making meaningful contributions in their professions and communities,” said Texas Tech President Lawrence Schovanec. “As Texas Tech continues its trajectory as a leading public research university, we remain focused on creating opportunities, advancing knowledge, and delivering value for the state of Texas and beyond.”

In addition to its overall global ranking, Texas Tech placed No. 141 among universities in the United States and Canada, No. 477 globally for research performance, and No. 562 worldwide for alumni employment.

CWUR evaluates universities using seven objective indicators designed to measure educational quality, graduate outcomes, faculty achievement, and research excellence. The ranking system relies on more than 81 million outcome-based data points and does not depend on surveys or institutional data submissions.

Methodology assigns 25% of the overall score to quality of education, measured by alumni who have received major academic distinctions, and another 25% to alumni employment, based on graduates who have held top executive positions at the world’s largest companies. Faculty achievements account for 10% of the ranking, while research performance contributes the remaining 40%.

Research performance is assessed through four equally weighted categories: research output, high-quality publications, research influence, and citations. Together, these indicators reflect the impact and visibility of a university’s scholarly contributions.

Texas Tech’s continued presence among the world’s top-ranked universities highlights the institution’s commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and research advancement. The latest ranking further strengthens its position as a leading public research university dedicated to producing impactful research and preparing graduates for leadership roles in a rapidly evolving global economy.
