CWUR evaluates universities using objective measures that focus on educational quality, employability, faculty distinction, and research performance. Unlike many global ranking systems, CWUR does not rely on surveys or institutional data submissions.

Methodology assigns 25% of the overall score to the quality of education, measured through alumni who have received major academic distinctions, and another 25% to employability, based on alumni holding leadership positions at the world’s largest companies. Faculty quality accounts for 10% of the ranking, while research performance contributes the remaining 40%.

Research performance is assessed through four key indicators: research output, high-quality publications, influence of published research, and citations of scholarly work. Each category carries a weight of 10% in the overall ranking.

The University of Arizona performed particularly well in faculty excellence, ranking No. 76 globally for the number of faculty members who have received major academic distinctions.
