East West University with Laurentian University and Western Sydney University

The Department of Economics at East West University hosted a session of its Economics Seminar Series on July 30, 2026, featuring Professor Sadequl Islam of Laurentian University, Canada, and Professor Anisuzzaman Chowdhury, Emeritus Professor at Western Sydney University, Australia.

Professor Islam discussed Bangladesh’s trade relations with the US and China, focusing on export diversification, competitiveness, and the challenges of LDC graduation. Professor Chowdhury addressed Bangladesh’s structural transformation, emphasizing productive policies, institutional reform, human capital development, and sustainable growth.

The seminar concluded with remarks from Professor Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, and Professor Dr. Shams Rahman, Vice Chancellor. Faculty members, students, and distinguished guests, including representatives from the Board of Trustees and BIDS, participated actively, reflecting EWU’s commitment to academic excellence and informed discussion of contemporary economic issues.
